PRESPEKTIF PENGEMBANGAN HUTAN RAKYAT DARI SISI BUDIDAYA HUTAN (The Prespective of Farm Forest Development from Silvicultural View)

There is a shortage of wood in Indonesia due to imbalance between the wood demand by forests industries and capability to supply wood. The wood from the recently established industrial plantation forest has not come to the expectation. On the other hand, the size farm forest has increased quite significantly in recent years and therefore the potential offarm forest to produce wood is also increased. From silvicultural point of view, the development of farm forest still has some shortcomings. The use of poor seed from unknown seed source with narrow genetic base is still widespread. Spacing, species mixture, stand improvement and selection for better trees are still poorly practised by farmers and a strategy for improving wood production of the farm forest is discuseed.
