VARIAN TEKNIK PENALAAN TALEMPONG LOGAM DI MINANGKABAU

The title of this research is �Variant of Metal Talempong Instrument Tuning Technique in Minangkabau�. �The tuning technique that has been implemented by Minangkabau tuners in producing the talempong instrument was traditionally determined by their own personal instinctive hearing. Meanwhile, a modern tuning technique has also been introduced in sounding the talempong instrument according to Western standard of diatonic scale. This dissertation aims to investigate various technical knowhow of the existing metal talempong instruments tuning system in Minangkabau, conducted by either tradition or modern tuners, in order to be able to set up an ideal system that appropriately suitable for both parties as a hand out guidance in developing the growth of Minangkabau metal talempong instrument. This dissertation consequently presents the research datas collected by using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies applied to Minangkabau metal talempong instrument, focused on its conception of sound, its state of the art, and its producing process.
