Fluoride ion contained in GIC restoration could be released either to the tooth structure and into saliva. One of the things that affect the release is the pH of the oral cavity. GIC setting reaction is acid-base reaction and will cause an acid stimulus in saliva, especially up to polimerizations completed. This acid in the oral cavity could stimulate the salivary glands to secrete saliva. The higher secretion of saliva, the higher the pH of saliva.
