Ruang identitas remaja perempuan Tionghoa :: Studi kasus pada remaja perempuan Tionghoa Kota Bengkulu

Indentity of female chinese (tionghoa) teenager in social interaction could be divided in her position as part of Tionghoa etnic, her relation with non-Tionghoa society and her position as women in its relation with man in the Tionghoa etnic family. This research’s goal is to find out how female teenager understood her identity as Tionghoa etnic and her identity as a female Tionghoa. To see this female Tionghoa teenager’s identity as a whole, spacial approach for identity was used which can unravel new sides where people are still rarely known. Both of these will be reviewed based on symbolic interaction approach that emphasize in role-taking and dramaturgy approach for mapping the space of social interaction. This study used qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach, in particular critical ethnography. The research’s results illustrate that the identity as a Tionghoa ethnic understood by female teenagers through several factors, namely: physical, heredity, Tionghoa tradition-culture, labeling, socialization, and environment confirmation. In relation to non-Tionghoa ethnic, female Tionghoa teenager show her roles in public and private spaces. The practice of roles division by sexual issues in Tionghoa’s family divided the space activities for men and women. Public spaces intended for men and domestic spaces for women. In addition to meet the expectations of both the interaction environment from external groups (non-Tionghoa) as well as internal groups (Tionghoa ethnic), in some cases female Tionghoa teenager also display the identity to meet his own expectation
