Performance of Groin Type - I and Type - L in Maintaining Shoreline Stability

Beach nourishment is the artificial process of adding sediment to a beach for recreational and aesthetic purposes, as well as to provide a buffer to coastal erosion. Since 2002 the use of artificial beach nourishment as beach protection is an option which was implemented in Indonesia. An approach defence with artificial beach nourishment is an attractive option because it is considered more natural as a way of mitigation of coastal disasters. Groin I and L is a combination of groins I and offshore breakwaters for protecting the sand due to wave attack. 3 (Three) - D physical model of hydraulic and coastal structure conducted to see the performance phenomenon of groin I and L in maintaining the shoreline stability. Sand with diameter d50 = 1.05 mm. and the slope of the initial slope of shoreline n = 6 used in this study. Based on research results, in general, groin I and L has good performance enough to maintain the stability of the coastline. Salient formation formed when B/L 1.1.
