Analisis pengelolaan obat di Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Wates = Analysis of drug management in Wates local public hospital

Background: One of the ways to improve health service is providing a qualified drug service by readiness of needed drug every time, sufficient drug supply, guaranteed quality, extended price and rational drug use. Wates District Hospital started as a self-funding unit beginning on January 1, 2001 aiming to improve health service comprehensively through high quality service affordable for all. The inefficient drug management in a hospital would cause negative medical and economic effect. Objective: This study aimed to observe drug management in Wates District Hospital including planning, supplying, storing, and distributing, in addition to formulating the framework of efforts for improving drug management as a recommendation. Method: This study was a non-experimental case study, explorative on drug management implementation in Wates District Hospital. The data gathering was done by observing documents and interviewing officers related to drug management. The data was analyzed descriptively and content analyzed and then the framework of improving drug management efforts was formulated. Result: The result of study showed that: 1) Drug planning - the available fund was appropriate for 100% the drug needed, 2) Supplying - was performed as self-management, the arrival time could be determined, the supply frequency was twice up to 28 times, 3) storing -TOR between 2.5 �4.4, the expired drug was 0.1% - 1.5%, stock out was 7.4%, final stock was 18% - 33%, 4) Distribution - time of drug service for out patient was 16 minutes and for in patient was 35 minutes, and 5) the drug use tended to be irrational. The priority effort to improve drug management was placed on increasing socialization of formularies. Conclusion: The result of the study concluded that drug management in Wates District Hospital was not appropriate and it is necessary to improve drug management to increase service quality.
