Studi kasus Program Pendidikan Pascasarjana dalam kedokteran keluarga di Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia = A case study of a family medicine postgraduate training program in the University of Kebangsaan Malaysia

Background: More than a decade. issues and problems related to a family physician arc intensively discussed in Indonesia. Discussions on a family physician are always interesting because these involved many parties. specialties and interests. Moreover. ii is believed that family physician system will provide personalized comprehensive, holistic and continued care Ibr individuals and their lamilies. Therefore. it is hoped that this system will lead to development of a cost-effective health care system. Methods: The question is how to produce human resources needed in the family medicine, who is responsible. how is the program structure will he run, what are the contents and processes in the production of the these human resources. To answer those questions this case study was conducted at the Postgraduate Training Program in Family Medicine of University Kehangsaan Malaysia. Qualitative approaches such as in-depth interview to the program manage' and lecturers as well as a review to the related literatures were performed. Results: The result showed that the development of the program is successful if main responsible parties such as Department of Health. Profession and University arc working hand in hand and supporting each other. A distance learning with the optimal use of the existing resources in the local department of health was implemented. Four-year duration is needed to complete this program. Those who completed the program are recognized as having Master degree and having the right as a specialist in family medicine.
