ABSTRAK The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of gauge length and strain rate on the specific essential work - offracture (we) according to the Essential Work of Fracture Method (EWFM). The Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) plate was used in this experiment. Single Edge Notch Tension (SENT) specimens of varying ligament lengths were tested in tension to obtain load-displacement curves. It was obtained a linear relationship between the specific total work of fracture (Hit) and ligament length (1). Intersection of this line and wt axis (vertical) is identified as the specific essential work of fracture (we).
