Hubungan Penyakit Malaria pada Ibu Hamil dengan Kejadian Berat Badan Lahir Rendah di Daerah Endemik Malaria Kabupaten Purworejo: The Relationship between Malaria Infection Pregnant Mothers with Low Birth Weight Incidence

Malaria infection of pregnant mothers is one of cause of low birth weight (LBW). Low birth weight incidence rate showed 4,14 percent LBW delivered from women in malana endemic area, higher from incidence rate Purworejo regency was 3,62 percent in1999. This study was aimed to find out relationship between malaria infections of pregnant mothers with LBW. This was a non-experimental study using a case-control design. The cases were thirty-six LBW infants and the controls were thirty-six normal birth weight (NBW) infants. The independent variables were malaria infection of pregnant mothers while the dependent variables were LBW. As The control variables were mother age, parity, antenatal care, pregnancy interval, Fe supplementation, treatment and anaemia. The objective of the study was tested using a multivariate analysis with logistic regression. Malaria infection of pregnant mothers at first trimester increased LBW higher 5,9 times p=0,05 (95% CI=1,02-34,11) than pregnant mothers who have not malaria infection, at second trimester increased LBW higher 6,2 times p=0,04 (95% CI=1,18-32,85) than pregnant mothers who have not malaria infection.
