The production of somatic embryo is considered to be the best method of vegetative plant propagation. A great number of seedlings can be produced any time only by simply sowing them, although until now the genetic similarity is indisputed. Cytometry and PCR technique can be used to detect genetic changes that might occur in the cell. They were applied to seedlings of conifer Larix decidua produced through somatic embryo. Flow cytometry was found to be able to detect ploidy level of seedlings efficiently and the ploidy level was showed relatively stable. Mutation in the DNA level was detected using PCR fingerprinting.
