Some ofwild animal species come continually under i limit so I hat the monitoring of the populations trends is essential. The interest on cage birds has threatened the population of both red jungle fowl (( gafius) and green jungle fowl (Gallus ',arias). The current abundance and distribution must be assessed to study how the populations of these species arc changing on site and what are their habitat require-limits. This research was carried out in Baluran National Park and aimed to investigate the current status of jungle fowl. � Distance sampling was applied to estimate the density of both jungle fowl species. The line transects were laid systematically over the study area. Distances between objects and transect were measured or estimated to produce the detection function. The habitat was described qualitatively with regard to its structure. The result showed that the density of red jungle fowl in monsoon forest was 10.2 individuals/km2 almost twice greater than that of green jungle fowl (5.7 individuals/ km2). The difference of population density related strongly to the habitat requirements.
