Munculnya Elite Baru Di Maluku Utara 1925-1942 = The Emergence of New Elites in North Molucas 1925 -1942

ABSTRACT This study aims at describing the emergence of the new elites in North Malucas in 1925 -1942 trough a historical approach. The research focuses on the status of the new elites and social change. The temporal scope of the research is that of around 1925 -1942. The year 1925 chosen as starting point of the research is based on the reason that from that time there was an extesion of area for the direct system of the government in North Molucas. While 1942 taken as the end of the time limit of this research is based the reason that in this time the dualistic system of the governmental bureaucracy ended in the North Molucas. The emergence of the elites in North Molucas was a positive impact of the development done by the colonial government. The opening of educational institutions had offered new oportunities to make the people there realize to develop themselves and accelerate the devolopment in general. Through the education, the people could get the suitable job and income based on their professionals. This condition had given a positive implication fot the people there in improving their social status. The result of the research shows that the presence of Dutch in North Molucas had brought the social change in the society. The social change happened accordence with the Dutch colonial efforts to open the schools in this region. The aims of these colonial efforts were to provide the colonial administrators for the structure of the colonial beaurecracy. The result of the development of economy and west education system produced a new social class in the society that was modern elite group in the society. This modern elite group belonged to the educated one occupying the middle class of the society in North Molucas who had become the motivators in mobilizing the social change there in that time.
