Abstract Mutant Saccharopolyspora erythraea RS-19-iBHxr, based on its Pyrolysis Mass-spectrometric (PyMS) spectra, has been found to have a higher valine content than its parent. A multivariate analysis was carried out on the pyrolysis mass-spectral data of the mutant and its parent cells with an additional series of standard valine solution confirmed that mutant Sac. erythraea RS-19-iBHxr has a higher valine than its parent. However this high valine content is not the only factor which discriminate the mutant from its parent. Keywords: Saccharopolyspora erythraea - RS-19-iBH^ - PyMS - valine - erythromycin
