Holography: science, art and technology

En el presente trabajo se hace una revisión histórica de los orígenes de la holografía, haciendo especial énfasis en las contribuciones de Gabor, Denisyuk y Leith al desarrollo de la técnica holográfica. Inicialmente se hace mención de los fundamentos físicos de la holografía: interferencia y difracción así como de los procesos involucrados en el registro y reconstrucción de un holograma. El trabajo termina con una breve descripción de algunas de las aplicaciones más importantes de la holografía en la ciencia, la técnica y el arte.This article provides a historical review of the origins of holography, placing particular emphasis on the contributions made by Gabor, Denisyuk and Leith to the development of holographic techniques. First of all the physical basis of holography is discussed: interference and diffraction, together with the processes involved in recording and reconstructing holograms. The article finishes with a brief description of some of the most important applications of holography in the fields of science, technology and art
