THE INFLUENCE OF USING STORY MAPPING TOWARD STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY IN RECOUNT TEXT AT THE SECOND SEMESTER OF THE TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 LIWA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2017/2018

The research was performed based on the preliminary research which showed the students’ writing score in recount text was still below the criteria of minimum mastery (KKM) at SMAN 1 Liwa. The students considered writing as a tough skill to practice due to the difficulty in developing and expressing the idea, and the class situation was also less attractive. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there is or not the influence of using story mapping towards students’ writing ability in recount text at the second semester of the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Liwa in the academic year of 2017/2018. The research methodology was quasi experimental design with the treatments held in 3 meetings, 2 x 45 minutes for each meeting. The population of this research was the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Liwa. The number of samples in this research was 72 students of two classes, X IPA 1 and X IPA 2. In collecting the data, the researcher used recount text writing test as the instruments in pre-test and posttest. After that the researcher used independent sample t-test to analyze the data. From the data analysis, it was found out that result of Sig (Pvalue) = 0.036 < α = 0.05. It means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted So, there was influence of using story mapping towards students’ writing ability in recount text at the second semester of the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Liwa in the academic year of 2017/2018.
