Antichi edifici religiosi e nuovi usi: un difficile processo di trasformazione nella città contemporanea

The study aims to analyze the complex process that has invested the Italian religious buildings, after the post-unification period, bending them to new uses not always compatible with the characters and with the sacredness of the places. In the case submitted to analysis, the phenomenon of the old convents re-use, although developed during the twentieth century, today continues to exert its effect. The assets of the religious complex that has been used over time and today appears to be available again benefited, may represent an interesting opportunity for a revitalization of historic town, through the development of integrated programs of intervention. This strategy may allow to promote "best practices", enhancing the development of local identity. The objective to be pursued is represented by a sustainable reuse of large monastic spaces so that they can be projected into the future, through a fair and balanced relationship between conservation and innovation. The memory of a territory is indeed changing: the ability to adapt to the passage of time and to the unexpected nature of events is so paradigmatic a goal of civilization.Lo studio vuole analizzare il complesso processo che a partire dal periodo post unitario ha investito la maggior parte dei complessi religiosi italiani, piegandoli a nuovi usi non sempre compatibili con i caratteri e con la sacralità dei luoghi. Come è possibile verificare nel caso analizzato, il fenomeno del riutilizzo delle antiche strutture conventuali, pur sviluppatosi nel corso del XX secolo, continua oggi ad esercitare il suo effetto. Il patrimonio dei complessi religiosi che è stato nel tempo utilizzato in maniera impropria e appare oggi disponibile ad essere nuovamente fruito, può rappresentare una interessante occasione per una rivitalizzazione dei centri storici, attraverso lo sviluppo di programmi integrati d’intervento da coniugare con un uso ottimale delle risorse, all’interno di strategie complesse. Tale strategia potrebbe consentire di incentivare le “buone pratiche”, valorizzando lo sviluppo di un’identità locale. Non può sfuggire che l’obiettivo da perseguire sia quello del riuso sostenibile dei grandi spazi conventuali perché possano essere proiettati verso il futuro, attraverso un corretto ed equilibrato rapporto fra conservazione ed innovazione. La memoria di un territorio è infatti in continuo mutamento e la capacità di adattarsi allo scorrere del tempo ed agli eventi di natura imprevista rappresenta in modo paradigmatico un obiettivo di civiltà
