Applied gravimetry in an area of Austral basin: Magallanes-Fagnano fault system

The bibliographical research was based in several themes involving stratigraphy, historical geology, structural geology and the petroleum systems of the Austral basin emphasizing the gravimetric method applied on the basin. The case study analyses the integration of the gravity, geologic and magnetic data integrated and try to delineate through a numeric model the main structural settings and the tectonic "scenario" of the south portion of the Austral basin called "Ilha da Terra do Fogo" more precisely in the Magallanes-Fagnano fault system.O texto foi baseado em uma pesquisa bibliográfica nos diversos temas envolvidos, e busca sintetizar a estratigrafia, geologia histórica, geologia estrutural e os sistemas petrolíferos da bacia Austral, como também, busca enfatizar o método prospectivo gravimétrico e sua aplicação bacia. No estudo de caso, os dados gravimétricos em conjunto com os dados geológicos e magnetométricos foram integrados, procurando delinear através de um modelo numérico as principais características estruturais e o cenário tectônico da porção sul da bacia Austral, chamada de Ilha da Terra do Fogo mais precisamente no sistema de falha Magallanes-Fagnano
