Analisis Pengetahuan Bidan Puskesmas dalam Keterampilan Pemeriksaan Neonatus menurut Buku Pedoman Pelayanan Bayi pada Tingkat Pelayanan Dasar di Kabupaten Tasikmalaya

Background: Midwives are the frontliners of community health services, who may reach the lowest level of community. The health centers midwives are the motor of community health that plays a role in motivating the community to make benefit of the health ser-vices. Life and quality of newborns are dependent on the midwife's service. Since the confinement, a baby might be injured, therefore understanding the risk factors and the referral process may be the key of success in decreasing the neonatal mortality rate. The neonatal mortality rate in Indonesia is still high, i.e. 25 per 1000 live birth.Objectives: This study was aimed to find out the relationship between knowledge and skills of midwives at the community health centers in neonatal examination based on the guidelines for infant services at the basic level of services.Methods: This study was held in Tasikmalaya regency using a cross-sectional ap-proach. The subjects were midwives at the community health centers who had at-tended basic infant service training. There were 54 respondents from 54 community health centers in Tasikmalaya. Ditrict Respondents' knowledge was measured using questionnaires while skills were measured through observation in the service points. The data were analyzed using Product-Moment correlation, t-test, and linear regres-sion.Results: The correlation test showed that knowledge, age, and length of work of the community health centers midwives and skills in neonatal check-up had a significant relationship, while distance/location had no significant relationship with midwives' skills in neonatal examination. The t-test on training, workload, and facilities showed that they had no significant relationship with skills. After the linear regression test, the vari-able of knowledge was the most dominant and had significant relationship with skills after being controlled by another variable.Conclusion: The higher the knowledge of a midwife correlates with the higher the skills for neonatal check-up.
