PERAN ORDO SANTA URSULA DALAM BIDANG PENDIDIKAN DI MALANG (1900-1942)

ABSTRACT Saint Ursula Order is one of the Catholic congregations that works in sector of education. Saint Ursula Order began their work in Indonesia from Batavia, then they spread to several regions, one of which was Malang. This congregation is the pioneer of Catholic education in Malang. This study aims to identify: (1) the historical background of Saint Ursula Order, (2) first arrival of the Saint Ursula Order in Malang, and (3) the role of Saint Ursula Order in education sector in Malang (1900-1942). The research method used is a historical method that includes title selection, heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that Saint Ursula Order has three several roles in education. These three roles have an influence on the development of the Saint Ursula Order in Malang, which can be seen in increasing number of students in 1900-1942, and relationship between the Saint Ursula Order and the community.  Keywords: role, education, Saint Ursula Order.&nbsp
