KEHIDUPAN KOMUNITAS TIONGHOA DI DESA PULOPANCIKAN KOTA GRESIK TAHUN 1965-1998

ABSTRAK After the tragedy on 1 October 1965, there were various Anti-Chinese actions appeared because the presumption that Chinese community involved in the tragedy. The fall of old regime (Orde Lama) and the changes of government into New Regime (Orde Baru) in General Suharto hand brought up many regulations that discriminate Chinese in various field and made them difficult to do their activity. There were also many riots and violence that involved the Chinese ethnic, but the local community of Gresik and Chinese community could live together without any conflicts. Therefore, present research takes the focus on The Chinese Community Life in Pulopancikan Village, Gresik City in 1965-1998. The statements of problems of this research are; (1) The background of Chinese ethnic came to Gresik; (2) The life of Chinese community in Pulopancikan Village, Gresik City in 1965-1998. This research used history method contains some step such as topic selection, sources collection, verification (history critique, sources validity), interpretation: analyzes and synthesis, and process of writing (historiografi). The Community of Chinese ethnics came to Gresik region before the 14th century, during the Majapahit kingdom. Gresik which has developed as advanced trading city has attracted the traders’ attention of the Chinese ethnics’ community to develop their business, form a community and build a settlement known as Pencinaan. The Chinese community in Gresik is not interested in politics. Most of them just focus their economics activities. The economic activity between local traders and Chinese traders is relatively balanced so there is no intersection. The religious activities of the Gresik Chinese community during the new regime were deeply restricted. The Chinese community and local people of Gresik maintain mutual relations and religious tolerance among them. In the social field, the Chinese community tried to maintain good social relations with the local people of Gresik. Keywords: Social life, Chinese Community, Pulopancikan Village
