The importance of Italian Renaissance diplomacy for the present

This work provides insight into the importance of Italian Renaissance diploma-cy for contemporary diplomacy. Above all, there are analyzed two books re-flecting the legacy of Italian Renaissance diplomacy. The first of these is the Renaissance Diplomacy of Garrett Mattingly, an American professor of Europe-an history. In his work, he emphasizes the so-called modern approach to the interpretation of history, which is based on the 19th-century exploration of the so-called grand narrative or subjective tendency to universal interpretation of human history. The second book opposing the previous one is Communication and Conflict. Italian Diplomacy in the Early Renaissance, 1350-1520 of Isabella Lazzarini, an Italian professor of medieval history. She views the issue through the multidimensional nature of the postmodern approach. It emphasizes the need to perceive not only the political-institutional dimension in assessing the importance of Italian Renaissance diplomacy, but also, for example, cognitive-linguistic or material-spatial. The thesis confirms that Italian Renaissance di-plomacy has given rise to a residential form of diplomacy, although it has not yet been fully residential. There are also other dimensions proposed by Isa-bella Lazzarini. According to her, Italian Renaissance diplomacy also contri-buted to the development of diplomatic roles (attaché or secretary) or diplo-matic practice, where for the first time more emphasis was placed on informa-tion, their collection, analysis and reporting to the sending State.Tato práce poskytuje náhled na problematiku významu italské renesanční di-plomacie pro diplomacii současnou. K tématu jsou analyzována především dvě díla vypovídající o odkazu italské renesanční diplomacie. První z nich je Renaissance Diplomacy amerického profesora evropské historie Garretta Mattinglyho. V tomto díle práce zdůrazňuje tzv. moderní přístup k výkladu his-torie, jež vychází ze stylu bádání 19. století využívající tzv. grand narrative neboli subjektivní tendenci k univerzálnímu výkladu lidských dějin. Druhým dílem vymezujícím se proti tomu předešlému je Communication and Conflict. Italian Diplomacy in the Early Renaissance, 1350-1520 italské profesorky středověké historie Isabelly Lazzarini. Ta na problematiku nahlíží skrze multidimenzionální charakter postmoderního přístupu. Zdůrazňuje nutnost vnímat nejen politicko-institucionální dimenzi při hodnocení významu italské renesanční diplomacie, ale také např. kognitivně-lingvistickou či materiálně-prostorovou. V práci se potvrzuje, že italská renesanční diplomacie zavdala vzniku rezidenční formy diplomacie, ač sama ještě formou plně rezidenční nebyla. Dochází se též k tomu, že je nutno brát v potaz i jiné dimenze navržené Isabellou Lazzarini. Dle ní italská renesanční diplomacie přispěla i k rozvoji diplomatických rolí (atašé či sekretář) nebo diplomatické praxe, kdy je poprvé kladen větší důraz na informace, jejich sběr, analýzu a reporting do vysílajícího státu
