Women in management

This diploma thesis focuses on the presence of women in managerial positions and their often uneasy paths to get them. The goal of the thesis is to find out how is affirmative action perceived and if it is actually helping women, based on theory and the research that has already been conducted. Another goal is to find out if there is a connection between the opinions on affiramtive action and culture. The theoretical part concentrates not only on the glass ceiling phenomenon, but also on psychological predispositions for managerial roles. Furthermore, it tries to find out whether women are actually motivated to enter such positions. Additionally, there are presented the current statistical data for the proportion of women in management. This all is supported by conducting an own research in five different countries, in the Czech Republic, Mexico, Norway, Singapore and the United States of America.Diplomová práce se zabývá působením žen v managementu a jejich často nesnadnou cestou na tyto pozice. Cílem práce je na základě teorie a dosavadních výzkumů v oblasti diskriminace žen v zaměstnání zjistit, jak je vnímána pozitivní diskriminace žen a zda je pro ženy skutečně přínosná. Cílem je také zjistit, zda existuje závislost vnímání pozitivní diskriminace na kultuře. V teorii je zkoumána nejen pomyslná bariéra růstu, ale také psychologické předpoklady pro manažerské role. Dále je zkoumáno, zda jsou ženy vůbec motivovány na manažerské pozice vstupovat. Doplněny jsou také aktuální statistiky podílu žen a mužů na manažerských pozicích. Teoretická část, dosavadní výzkumy a aktuální statistiky jsou podpořeny vlastním výzkumem, který proběhl v pěti zemích, na které se práce soustředí, tedy v České republice, Mexiku, Norsku, Singapuru a Spojených státech amerických, a který byl podpůrným nástrojem pro dosažení cílů práce
