The capacity growth of container ships with emphasis on maritime container transport

Mega ships trend is a long-term process of the capacity growth of container ships which means building constantly bigger ships. The capacity growth affects balance between supply and demand for TEU capacity, and freight rates and therefore the approach of shipping lines to this problem is crucial. Only the shipping lines can moderate this trend and affect the maritime market positively. The goal of this master's thesis is to compare the approaches of the shipping lines to ULCVs deployment and determine how it will affect future TEU capacity and rankings of the shipping lines. Another goal is to provide a coherent view on the mega ships trend.Trend mega lodí představuje současně probíhající dlouhodobý proces navyšování přepravní kapacity lodí, a tudíž stavění stálé větších lodí. Navyšování přepravní kapacity ovlivňuje rovnováhu mezi nabídkou a poptávkou po kapacitě TEU a námořní sazby, a proto jsou přístupy rejdařů k této problematice klíčové. Pouze rejdaři mohou tento trend zmírnit a pozitivně tak ovlivnit námořní trh. Cílem této diplomové práce je srovnání přístupů jednotlivých rejdařů k nasazování ULCVs a určení, jak ovlivní budoucí kapacitu TEU a s tím související pořadí rejdařů.
