Integration of the Western Balkans to the EU as an instrument to develop the competitiveness

This Master’s Thesis deals with the European integration process of Western Balkans and its impact on the competitiveness of individual countries. The thesis is divided into three parts.The first chapter is dedicated to Copenhagen criteria as basic requirements for countries entering the European Union, summarizes theoretical approaches to individual areas of the transformation process and presents the concept of international competitiveness and manners of its measuring. The second chapter of the thesis analyses the current state of transformation, competitiveness and European integration of Western Balkans countries and the whole region and names most important reform conducted. The last chapter is focused on key reforms necessary to fulfil Copenhagen criteria, investigates its impact on the competitiveness and presents the perspective of further development.Tato diplomová práce se zabývá procesem evropské integrace regionu západního Balkánu a jeho vlivem na konkurenceschopnost jednotlivých zemí. Práce je rozdělena do tří částí.První kapitola je věnována Kodaňským kritériím jako základním požadavkům na státy vstupující do Evropské unie, shrnuje teoretický přístup k jednotlivým oblastem procesu transformace a představuje koncept mezinárodní konkurenceschopnosti a způsoby jejího měření. Druhá kapitola práce analyzuje současný stav transformace, konkurenceschopnosti a evropské integrace jednotlivých ekonomik západního Balkánu i regionu jako celku a jmenuje nejvýznamnější provedené reformy. Poslední kapitola je zaměřena na klíčové reformy, které je nutné provést ke splnění Kodaňských kritérií, zkoumá jejich následný vliv na konkurenceschopnost a představuje perspektivu dalšího vývoje
