The History of the Cooperation Among the Countries of the Mediterranean and the Barcelona Process with its Consequences

In this bachelor thesis I aim to analyze the development of relations between the northern and southern Mediterranean. I focus on monitoring the approach of individual European countries to their neighbors in the Mediterranean and the adopting of a common policy by the EC/EU towards the Mediterranean. From Brussels' perspective and starting with the Barcelona Process and also in the Union for the Mediterranean this concept has many advantages: the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries have always been closely connected to Europe. They represent a greater objective than the rest of the region economically, politically and also in terms of European security. In the last chapter I focus on the latest political developments in the Arab world and how they could affect the approach of the EU towards the region. I use official EU sources, textbooks by doc. Ing. Cihelková, statistical data from UNCTAD and newspaper articles concerning recent news in Arab countries.V této bakalářské práci se zaměřuji na analýzu vývoje vztahů mezi severním a jižním Středomořím. Cílem je zmapovat přístup jednotlivých evropských států k sousedstvím ve Středomoří a přijetí společné politiky ES/EU vůči Středomoří od Barcelonského procesu po Unii pro Středomoří. Z bruselského pohledu má koncept mnoho výhod: právě státy jižního a východního Středomoří byly a jsou s Evropou úžeji v kontaktu. Představují významnější cíl než zbytek regionu, a to zejména z ekonomických, ale i politických a bezpečnostních zájmů. V poslední kapitole se zaměřuji na poslední politické události v arabských zemích a jak by mohly být ovlivnit přístup Bruselu k regionu. Využívala jsem nejčastěji oficiální prameny EU, skripta doc. Ing. Cihelkové, statistiky UNCTAD a novinové články zabývající se posledními událostmi v arabském světě
