Economy of the Baltic States in the Beginning of the 21st Century: Successes, Problems and Outlook

This paper describes and analyses the economic development of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia since the restoration of independence in early nineties. The paper then characterises the most important problems the Baltic States' economies are currently facing and addresses their causes and consequences. These problems include current account deficit, high inflation and labour force emigration. In the end the paper outlines possible future developments in these economies.Tato práce popisuje a analyzuje hospodářský vývoj Litvy, Lotyšska a Estonska od získání samostatnosti na začátku devadesátých let až do současnosti. Práce dále charakterizuje nejvýznamnější problémy, kterým musí v současnosti ekonomiky pobaltských států čelit, a věnuje se jejich příčinám a důsledkům. Mezi tyto problémy patří deficit běžného účtu platební bilance, vysoká inflace a emigrace pracovních sil. Nakonec se práce snaží naznačit možný budoucí vývoj těchto ekonomik
