Microcystin (MC) produced during cyanobacteria blooms is notably toxic to human and wildlife. Conjugation with reduced glutathione (GSH) by glutathione S transferase (GST) and the antioxidant enzymes defenses (e.g. catalase, CAT) are important biochemical defense mechanisms against MCs toxicity.
