ABSTRACT This paper analysed the effect of rain on carrier frequency Ku Band in the tropical area by calculating the amount of rain attenuation in that frequency band as a function of time, according to the rain duration in a certain time unit. The analysis was carried out by comparing the result of rain attenuation models calculation and the result of field measurements. The models calculation used Palapa C satellite as reference point and the CCIR rain prediction models. This comparison determined the degree of accuracy of the model derived from the calculation.
