Studies on NaCl-tolerance yeasts (Supplement of Part II) : Salt-tolerance and the cellular characteristics in Torulopsis

[Author abstract]Growth responses between salt tolerance yeasts and solution of NaCl,KCl,LiCl,CaCl_2,MgCl_2, MnCl_2 and levulose were examined. In the case of the halotolerant type yeasts, this growth responses in medium of high concentration of salts and levulose were much higher than these of halophilic or low halophilic ones. The ability to grow at various concentration of lithium chloride was tested. No growth occurred at 0.4 percent with any of the strains, unless a few amount of lithium chloride was added to the medium. Almost all halophilic, low-halophilic and some of halotolerant strains grown in a medium supplemented with a high concentration of salts and levulose showed small cell size than normal ones.[要約]食塩耐性機構を検討する目的で耐性株のNaの細胞内への流入ならびに輸送と耐塩性との関連性を細胞レベルで考察した。1.耐塩性株の細胞内へのNaの流入ならびに輸送は耐塩性の高いHalotolerant type Sy-F-6菌株では耐性の低いHalotolerant type S-A-2菌株に比較して小さな値を得た。2.細胞内へのKの取り込み量はNaと同様な傾向を示し、細胞内に取り込まれたNa:K比はHalotolerant type yeastはhalophobic type yeastに比較し高い値を示した。3.細胞壁、細胞内に存在するNa^+とbinding Naの含量はその菌株により異なり細胞内に取り込まれたその比は食塩耐性の高い菌株ほど小なる値を得た
