Investigação, conhecimento científico e responsabilidade social: reflexões a partir das Ciências Sociais e Humanas

Departing from some of our previous publications and from our experience as a university professor of methodology of scientific research in education for about three decades, this article intends to reflect on the role of science in promoting a fairer and more inclusive society. The positivist heritage that the social and human sciences have received has imposed ways of scientific work that can be deeply excludent. It is therefore important to bring for discussion the principles that govern the choice of research themes and methodologies used, as well as the criteria respected to make the knowledge produced credible. The role of the researcher cannot be forgotten in the relationship established with the people studied. The development of a critical vigilance in the course of any scientific work thus appears to be an ethical imperative, whatever the scientific area under consideration.Partindo de trabalhos anteriores nossos e da nossa experiência como docente universitária de metodologia da investigação científca em educação há cerca de três décadas, pretendese neste artigo refletir em torno do papel da ciência na promoção de uma sociedade mais justa e inclusiva. A herança positivista que as ciências sociais e humanas receberam impôs modos de trabalho científico que podem ser profundamente excludentes. Importa, por isso, convocar para a discussão os princípios que presidem à escolha das temáticas de investigação e das metodologias usadas, bem como os critérios respeitados para tornar credível o conhecimento produzido. O papel de quem faz investigação não pode ser esquecido, na relação estabelecida com as pessoas estudadas. O desenvolvimento de uma vigilância crítica no decurso de qualquer trabalho científico afigura-se assim como um imperativo ético, qualquer que seja a área científica em análise
