This research aims to identify the characteristics and purposes for using Problems in teaching Arythmetics in primary school in the State of São Paulo, from the 20s to the 40s, as well as how these Problems were transformed by changes arising from the different educational-pedagogical proposals for teaching. Research sources analysed were manuals for teaching Arythmetics and articles published in Pedagogical Journals that were in circulation during the period covered by the research, in order to verify which appropriations from different pedagogical idelogies on problem solving were present at these Journals.
