Emotion Talk Across Corpora offers new insights into how English speakers talk about their own and others emotions. It is the first book-length treatment of `emotion talk in four registers of British English - conversation, news reportage, fiction and academic discourse - to combine research in two well-known linguistic approaches: appraisal theory and corpus linguistics. Using a 20-million-word sub set from the British National Corpus, it combines small- and large-scale corpus studies of emotion terms and their patterns with an analysis of texts according to a modified version of Appraisal theory.
