This work takes up ideas of memory, as an articulation of the symbolic history of a subject. Kivland refers to L’anne dernière à Marienbad, Resnais and Robbe-Grillet’s film, which appears to follow the construction of memory through speech, similar to the workings of psychoanalysis. The project is a multi-part, site-specific exhibition at Centre d’art contemporain, Chateau de Morsang, Morsang-sur-Orge, France, November 2004 - January 2005: (1) a gold and blue invitation card; (2) an opening event at which a choir rehearsed for a performance it had already given; (3) an installation comprised of a photograph, a wall text and sumptuous gold silk curtains; (4) a postcard that circulated in three ways; and (5) a small book.
