Deploying ubiquitous computing systems into real world scenarios can realistically only be done in a bottom-up way, using smart building blocks. Our everyday environments are just too chaotic to allow top-down design of ubiquitous computing systems. Creating ubiquitous computing systems in a bottom-up manner has some inherent problems, which have not been successfully addressed in any existing approach, hence the scarcity of real-world ubiquitous computing systems.
