The Laboratory of Lighting Technology at the TU Darmstadt developed a device for aiming automotive headlamps under field test conditions. In contrast to conventional headlamp adjustment systems, which demand a plane surface, the developed device allows an adjustment according to ECE-Regulations even on rough road surfaces. In a field study 125 cars have been examined according to their actual headlamp aiming. Different illuminants, age of the vehicles and driving performance have been taken into consideration
