Scenario Builder for generating realistic serious game scenarios for fire safety applications

In the last years an additional option to reach fire protection engineering design decisions was introduced next to applying prescriptive codes, the performance-based approach. For the demonstration of the safe performance of a building fire protection engineers make more and more use of computer models and simulations for the analysis of fire, smoke and the safety evacuation. A challenge here is to model the behavior of endangered people because this is based on individual "human factors". It was found out that new methods for analyzing the human behavior in extreme situations have to be developed. One hypothesis which should be considered is that the decisions of a person during a computer game are comparable to decisions during an extreme situation in the real world. To check this hypothesis, a serious computer game has to be developed where "real" people can slip virtually into the role of an endangered person.
