La mobilit\ue0 e la deambulazione sono fondamentali per mantenere l\u27indipendenza nella vita quotidiana in et\ue0 avanzata. Una alterazione di queste funzioni pu\uf3 rappresentare un punto critico nella transizione verso la disabilit\ue0 e la perdita di autonomia. L\u27obiettivo di questo lavoro, che raccoglie tre anni di ricerche condotte in Italia e negli Stati Uniti, era stabilire i determinanti della perdita progressiva della mobilit\ue0 e della deambulazione in persone anziane della comunit\ue0. Secondo i nostri risultati, le alterazioni dei sistemi nervoso e cardiovascolare, pur in assenza di eventi clinici evidenti, sono associate all\u27insorgenza di tali deficit.
