Baculovirus (BV) strains are claimed in whose genome a gene concerned with construction of the polyhedral membrane is defunctionalised. Also claimed are transfer vectors contg. defunctionalised gene. Pref. the parent strain is the nuclear polyhedral virus of Autographa californica (AcMNPV). The gene coding for protein p10 is defunctionalised bydeletions or insertions, or be removal of the whole gene or its replacement by another sequence
