Women in combat : representations of femininity in boxers and MMA fighters

Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar as representações de feminilidades de lutadoras profissionais de Boxe e de Artes Marciais Mistas (MMA) a fim de compreender como estes corpos colocam em cena a transitoriedade e as possibilidades de construção do feminino. Contempla uma abordagem qualitativa do tipo descritivo e encontra sua fundamentação teórica nos Estudos de Gênero, mais especificamente, em sua vertente pós-estruturalista. Seu corpus empírico se estrutura a partir da realização de entrevistas com três atletas profissionais, as quais foram analisadas de modo a apreendermos as representações de feminilidade produzidas por essas atletas. Os discursos nos mostram o quão plural são as identidades e as conformações de gênero das lutadoras. Elas reafirmam serem femininas ao seu modo e dentro de sua modalidade esportiva.This study aims to analyze the representations of femininity in professional boxers and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters in order to understand how these athletes put into play the transience and the possibilities of construction of the feminine. It features a qualitative descriptive approach and finds its theoretical foundation in Gender Studies, more specifically, in its poststructuralist aspect. The empirical data is structured from interviews with three professional athletes analyzed in order to apprehend the representations of femininity generated by these athletes. Their discourses reveal multiple identities and conformations of gender which reaffirm their unique ways to be feminine within their sort of sport
