Objective of the thesisThe greenhouse horticulture sector in the Netherlands covers about 10,000 hectares and produces vegetables, cut flowers and pot plants. This agricultural sector is of social and economic importance because of its annual production value, export earnings and the employment it provides. Cultivation in greenhouses, however, is characterised by high inputs of energy, fertilisers and chemical biocides, which contribute to several environmental problems.
