Entomopathogenic nematodes in the families Heterorhabditidae and Steinernematidae have considerable potential as biological control agents of soil-inhabiting insect pests. Attributes making these nematodes ideal biological control agents include their broad host range, high virulence, safety to non target organisms, ability to search for hosts, high efficacy in favourable habitats, high reproductive potential, ease of mass production, ease of application, and compatibility with other control strategies.
