The classification of liver injuries is important for clinical practice, clinical research and quality assurance activities. The Organ Injury Scaling (OIS) Committee of the American Association for the Surgery ofTrauma proposed the OIS for liver trauma in 1989. The purpose ofthe present study was to apply this scaleto a cohort ofliver trauma patients managed at a single Canadian trauma centre from January 1987 to June1992.170 study patients were identified and reviewed.
