Loss-of-control resulting from airplane upset is a leading cause of worldwide commercial aircraft accidents. In response, the Federal Aviation Administration requires all U.S. air carrier pilots to receive upset-recovery training in flight simulators by 2020. However, the aerodynamic models in most flight simulators are not valid at upset conditions and must be updated before they can be used for training. In this thesis, a method is proposed for generating representative lateral stall models to better represent the aircraft dynamics at stall.
