The Relationship Between Markers of Oxidative Stress and Depressive Symptoms in Coronary Artery Disease Patients

Depression is highly prevalent and associated with worse prognoses in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), but underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Oxidative stress, and ensuing lipid peroxidation, may be implicated in both depressive and cardiovascular pathologies but has yet to be assessed in CAD. This study investigated the relationship between depressive symptoms and the lipid peroxidation markers 8-isoprostane (8-ISO), 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE), and lipid hydroperoxides (LPH) in 204 CAD patients.
