Childhood aggression is associated with a variety of negative outcomes and is frequently accompanied by increased internalizing problems. The co-morbid group is at a high risk for negative outcomes. Genetic factors contribute to the development of aggression and anxiety, and HPA axis dysfunction is associated with both. Here we present a study of common variants in childhood aggression and co-morbid anxiety. We find main effects of SNPs in the FKBP5, NR3C1, CRH, and CRHR2 genes on measures of anxiety and aggressive behaviour. We also find that the FKBP5 gene and a history of maltreatment interact to increase the risk of both internalizing and externalizing problems in children. These findings add to the currently limited literature in the g...
