Comportamiento productivo de cerdos mestizos en ceba alimentados con follaje fresco de Morus alba como sustituto parcial del concentrado comercial

The forage use in the feeding of the pigs brings nutritional and physiological advantages that favour pig behaviour. From these antecedents, the objective of this investigation consisted of evaluating the productive response of racially mixed pigs in the stage of fattening, when used fresh morera, Morus alba , foliage as partial substitute of the commercial concentrated. The investigations took place in the EEPF “Indio Hatuey “. The gains of live weight of pigs in growth were evaluated from 30 to 90 kg. Weighting was made every 14 days, with the determination of the live weight, daily weight gain, and the feed conversion. The groups initiated and finished the stages of evaluation with very close weights (63.02 vs. 60.59 kg) and the difference in the total increase of live weight during the fatten stage was small (2.43 kg/pig). The weight gain average in both groups (treatment and control) was similar, with a tendency to the superiority of the group that consumed only concentrated. The value in the control group was 636 g/anim/d, while in the experimental group was 623 g/anim/d, with a non significant difference between groups. Pigs that consumed only concentrated, the conversion index was low with value of 1.71, and in the experimental group was of 1.94. The inclusion of morera foliage in the diets improved the performance of the productive indicators of mixed pigs in fattening stage.La utilización de forrajes en la alimentación de los cerdos trae consigo ventajas nutricionales y fisiológicas que favorecen el comportamiento porcino. A partir de estos antecedentes el objetivo de esta investigación consistió en evaluar la respuesta productiva en la etapa de ceba en cerdos mestizos, al emplear el follaje de morera, Morus alba , fresca como sustituto parcial del concentrado comercial. Las investigaciones se efectuaron en la EEPF “Indio Hatuey”. Se evaluaron las ganancias de peso vivo de cerdos en crecimiento desde 30 hasta 90 kg. El pesaje se realizó cada 14 días, con la determinación del peso vivo promedio, la ganancia media diaria y la conversión alimentaria. Los grupos iniciaron y terminaron las etapas de evaluación con pesos promedios muy próximos (63,02 vs. 60,59 kg) y la diferencia en el incremento total del peso vivo durante la etapa de ceba fue pequeña (2,43 kg/cerdo). La ganancia media de peso en ambos grupos (tratamiento y control) fue similar, con una tendencia a la superioridad del grupo que consumió solo concentrado. El valor promedio en el grupo control fue 636 g/ anim/d, mientras que en el grupo experimental fue 623 g/anim/d, con una diferencia no significativa entre ambos grupos. En los cerdos que solo consumieron concentrado el índice de conversión fue bajo con valor de 1,71 y en el grupo experimental fue 1,94. La inclusión del follaje de morera en las dietas mejoró el comportamiento de los indicadores productivos de los cerdos mestizos en ceba
