The first sermon is on Side A and is titled "On Compassion". The second sermon is on Side B and is titled "On Patience". It is believed that Nouwen travelled to Springfield at the request of a woman named Norma Wiley. She was a Canadian who had recently moved to Springfield to found a hospice. It is unclear how they knew each other
