The event was attended by 23 member countries, who met in the impressive surroundings of the New State House, formerly Dr Hastings Banda's residence. The meeting agreed that the programme should concentrate on renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency. Education and Training Policy analysis and advice Information exchange Standards rationalisation Funding and financing Business development and demonstration WOMEN IN SCIENCE In many parts of the Commonwealth careers in science and technology are not seen to be appropriate by girls. However women have much to contribute to this field and much to gain as the end users of many technologies. Bearing in mind the importance of radio to public information in Africa, in the lead up to the Council's nineteenth meeting in Malawi, the CSC arranged a series of five radio programmes in which successful African women scientists were interviewed, with a view to providing role models for female high school students. NEW CSC CHAIRMAN Mrs. Maureen Manchouck was chosen in Malawi as the new chairperson of the Commonwealth Science Council.
