This system allowed the impacts of pH, dissolved oxygen, mass transfer rate, iodide concentration and the addition of organics to be independently examined. The acquired data set indicated that the apparatus was able to fulfil its mandate of enabling a broad examination of the parameters believed to have the greatest effect on the volatilization of iodine. For 10-5 and 10-4 M buffered CsI solutions, a one order of magnitude rate increase was observed between acidic and basic solutions.
