grantor: University of TorontoThe effect of earthworms on chemical, physical, and biological soil properties influenced the persistence, bioavailability, and transport of the herbicides atrazine [2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-1,3,5-triazine] and metolachlor [2-chloro-'N'-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)-' N'-(2-methoxy-1-methylethyl)acetamide] in soil. Herbicide applications at maximum recommended field rates had no adverse effects on earthworm biomass. [U-ring-14C]at-dzine dissipated and mineralized more rapidly in soil preincubated with earthworms than in soil that did not contain earthworms.
